EWURA ISSUES NOTICE TO ROGUE FUEL STATION OPERATORS "Credit News 24"
With nine days remaining today for fuel stations operators to instal Electronic Fiscal Pump Printer (EFPP) machines at their facilities as per President John Magufuli's order last week, the energy and water regulator has issued a notice to back up the directive with legal measures.
The Energy and Water Regulatory Authority (EWURA) issued a public notice on Saturday for the fuel station operators to fix the EFPP machines within the fourteen days or face strong legal measures.
Last week President Magufuli gave fuel operators two weeks to fix the machines at their facilities and ordered the ministries of Finance and Planning and that of Trade, Industries and Investment to revoke licences of the defaulters.
EWURA warned in a public notice issued on Saturday that severe legal action should be taken against all operators of retail stations who will fail to install EFPP machines after expiry of the specified period of 14 days.
"Notice is hereby given to all operators of petroleum products retail outlets who have not installed Electronic Fiscal Pump Printer (EFPP) machines at their facilities in accordance with section 80A(1) of the Income Tax Act, Cap 332, R.E 2008 (as amended) to do so within 14 days from the date of issue of this notice.
" Failure to instal EFPP machines contravenes section 240(1) (f) of the Petroleum Act, Cap 392, Rule 25 of the Petroleum (Retail Operations) Rules, GN No. 168 of 2015, Paragraph 12.1(a)(i) and 12.1(q) of the licence terms and conditions.
"Severe legal action shall be taken against all operators of retail stations who will fail to install EFPP machines after expiry of the specified period of 14 days." President Magufuli order last week followed a crackdown initiated by Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) on fuel stations which had failed to fix the EFPP machines.
The Minister of Finance and Planning, Dr Philip Mpango, closed a filling station as part of the nationwide inspection and clampdown on non compliant operators.
The government has toughened up a crackdown on tax evasion to boost domestic revenues. Latest TRA reports show monthly revenue collection has gone up to 1.3tri/- from about 800bn/- last year.
