DEPUTY MINISTER STRESSES ON TAX COMPLIANCE "Credit News 24"
Deputy Minister for Finance and Planning, Dr Ashatu Kijaji.
Dr Kijaji made the remarks today morning while addressing members of the Kagera Chamber of Commerce and Industries (KCCI), in Bukoba Municipality.
“The fifth phase government under President John Magufuli is determined to ensure Tanzanians benefit from their sweat, I urge you to support the government initiatives,” she said.
Elaborating, the Deputy Minister said in the past four months –June-September, the government had paid about 190bn/- to various institutions including tenderers (67.1bn/), contractors (24.2bn/-), service providers (38.6bn/-), public employees (37bn/-) and other services (24bn/-).
She noted that in the 2017/18 financial budget the government has allocated over 1tr/- for similar services. “This will be realised through tax compliance. All business people must ensure that they pay the taxes on time.
Tax evaders will not be tolerated,” she said. She added that the Tanzania Agricultural Development Bank (TADB) was progressing well by opening Zonal branches in a bid to reach more Tanzanians especially those at the grassroots level.
“My appeal to Tanzanians is to utilise the bank by taking loans and paying back on time. Small scale farmers should be bold to take soft loans and buy agricultural inputs including fertilisers,” she said.
Dr Kijaji said the government was negotiating with commercial banks in order to lower down the interest rates charged by private banks.
